Weke of July 23rd, 2012

Jaren was off on vacation this week, and us girls loved every minute of it. Monday afternoon we went to a resort in Tempe, the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at the Buttes. We swam in the pools, explored around the resort, and went out to dinner and then bed super late. They have two pools connected by a little swim channel so you could go back and forth between them. They also had two waterfalls that were fun. We really enjoyed it. We got up Tuesday morning and went for a small hike, and then swam for a while. After that we headed home to put Addy down for a nap, and Grandma Petersen came over to watch her while we took Hailey to the movies to see the fourth Ice Age movie, which was really funny.  Wednesday we went to the Southwest museum, then picked up lunch on the way home.  Addy went down for a short nap before everyone came over.  Nana, Autumn, Momo, Missy & Meagan all came over to stay the night with Addy while Jaren & I took Hailey to Squaw Peak Resort in Phoenix.  We got to the resort at about 5 and went swimming at the waterpark there for about three hours. It was a pretty cool place.  They had a huge pool with two waterfalls, a lazy river and a water slide.  We got Hailey to go down the slide once, but she wouldn't do it again.  It was pretty fast, so I guess I don't blame her.  We enjoyed the lazy river and swam behind the waterfalls, which was lots of fun.  We didn't have time to swim the next day before checkout, which was a bummer.  We went home and were happy to see Addy.  Only one night away from her, but I missed her like crazy.  Everybody went home except for Missy, who stayed to play with Hailey for the day.  Friday we did stuff around the house, and then Lois & Cleiburn came over to watch the girls while Jaren and I went to dinner and a movie.  Saturday we got up and went on a family bike ride, then came back and played with chalk in the driveway.  At one point, I looked up and I was the only one still playing...haha.  It was lots of fun.  That afternoon Jaren and I decided to paint our bedroom.  It's a really pretty greenish bluish color.  We weren't sure we liked it at first, but once it dried, we loved it.  We ended the night with take out for dinner and watched the olympics pretty late.  Sunday we didn't do much, a little cleaning and Hailey & I went birthday shopping for Addy's birthday next month.  Other than that we mostly watched olympics all day.  Next week is back to work for Jaren  :(  I wish I had taken more pictures at the two resorts we stayed at, but mostly we were just in the pools, and I didn't want to leave my camera sitting around.  Bummer, but next vacation I will take pictures.

Dust Storm

We LOVE monsoon season! We love the rain more, but the walls of dust that come through are pretty amazing to watch. This one came fast, and when it hit, it was SO windy.

Week of July 16, 2012

Monday started out relaxing, watching Bambi and playing in the backyard. After that we picked up Autumn and headed over to Jumpstreet. It's basically a HUGE warehouse filled with trampolines that go up the sides of the walls. There was a smaller set of trampolines for the little kids, and Addy LOVED it. We only stayed for an hour, then picked up McDonalds for lunch. Tuesday we went to feed the ducks and then invited John & Reagan over to swim. That afternoon we went to Michaels craft store to pick up stuff to make sidewalk chalk. Wednesday we went to the park by Nana & Papa's house first thing, then went to visit them after. We mostly hung out at home the rest of the day until Hailey had gymnastics. Thursday we went to the splash pad and checked out the puppies at the pet store. Hailey would stay in the pet store all day if I let her. That evening Jaren and Eric took Hailey & Clancy to Tempe Town Lake to kayak. It was Hailey's first kayak ride, and she asked about it all day long and was so excited when she heard Jaren coming in the door from work. They got back pretty late, and Hailey was exhausted. She ate a really late dinner and fell asleep in about two seconds. Friday Autumn came to babysit for a few hours while I went out and did a little shopping by myself.....YES!! Saturday was a blur, didn't do much, and least not that I remember. Sunday we had a Petersen get together for Rachel's birthday. The cousins had lots of fun playing. Looking forward to next week because Jaren is on vacation!!!!

Hailey's first kayak trip...

Jaren and Eric took Hailey & Clancy to Tempe Town Lake to kayak. They didn't leave until almost five, and got back at almost ten, so it was a long evening for Hailey, but she had LOTS of fun. Jaren picked her up a happy meal on the way home. She ate and went to bed, and pretty much fell asleep while I was talking to her :)

Big Shot...

Little Miss Addy figured out she could use something to stand on so she could turn the lights off & on. She thinks she is a big shot now!

Homemade Sidewalk Chalk....

While feeding my addiction on Pinterest, I saw a post for homemade sidewalk chalk. It looked really fun and cheap to make, so we decided to give it a try. Pretty much all we needed was Plaster of Paris and tempura paint. Addy was super cranky all day, so I knew it would be disastrous to have her help. As soon as she fell asleep, Hailey and I had lots of fun making it. Hailey's favorite part was picking the colors. Once we put the plaster in the molds, we had to let them dry overnight. Hailey was WAY excited the next morning. The first thing she said was "can we go check the chalk?" So cute! Most of it was dry, so the girls went outback to try it out. Definitely a fun project, and we will be making more for sure!
Checking out the colors.
Mixing...
More mixing...
A little help from Daddy!
All done!
She was so excited to start drawing!
Time for FUN!

Freestone Park...

Since Jaren went kayaking for the day, and the weather was overcast and somewhat nice, us girls decided to go hang out at Freestone Park. We usually feed the ducks bread, but we had a HUGE bag of birdseed, and decided to take that. As soon as we got out and near the water, the ducks surrounded the girls. They LOVED the birdseed, and Hailey loved feeding it to them. She was so excited that they were eating it out of her hands. Addy wasn't so sure about them, because there were so many, and mostly stayed right by Hailey or I. After feeding the ducks, they ran around in the grass, we took pictures, and they played on the playground. There were only two other kids there, both girls, same age as them so it was perfect!
Just getting there....Addy wasn't so sure about it.
