Volunteering

Hailey has been wanting to volunteer her time somewhere, mostly at an animal shelter, or anything having to do with animals.  The girl LOVES animals.  She has such a soft spot for them, sweet girl.  I haven't looked into that yet, I think she might be a bit too young.  I told her about Feed My Starving Children, and she couldn't wait to go.  Lots of people in our ward have volunteered, and they loved every part of it.  You basically go pack food bags for malnourished children in other countries.  The day we went, the food was going to Cambodia.  You start by signing up for a two hour time slot.  When you first get there, you watch a short video on the program.  Then you wash up, put on hair nets, which the girls thought was hilarious, and go to a station.  There were about twelve stations.  We had a bit of a rocky start due to the station we went to.  There was a gal and her parents, and out of the six spots to work at, they went to the ones that would be easier for a child.  So, Addy through a massive fit for about two minutes, because she didn't want to just stand there.  I wasn't sure she would be able to weigh the ingredients, because you have to take some out or add some, depending on the weight on the digital scale.  I was hoping the other people would switch her, so she just had to add a scoop of rice in the bag, but nope..haha.  Anyhow, we made it work.  After a few minutes, her and Hailey were little pros!  When we had thirty minutes left, we asked the other people if we could switch spots, which they did.  They crank up the music, and you just measure and pack and seal bags, it's so cool.  When a table has a box packed, you yell "table three, box ten".  My girls both said they were pretending they were at work haha!  After you pack the boxes, they invite you in the back to say a prayer over the boxes, and to try a sample.  Both girls thought it was the best food they had ever tasted haha!  Addy kept trying to get more samples, and Hailey has asked me about ten times to make it for dinner haha!  Anyhow, the whole experience was pretty awesome, and we all can't wait to go back.
