The Girls

Pictures from the week.....

Grandma Petersen gave this shape sorter toy to Addy a year
ago and she has recently become OBSESSED with it!  Last
week she asked me to play it with her about thirty times
each day.  She loves putting the shapes in.

Seeing how much she loved her shape sorter from Grandma, I got
her this little peg board shape sorter.  She is doing excellent learning to
sort her colors, and we are working on the shapes.

Hailey loves to play teacher & help Addy learn....so cute!

Thought this was so cute!  Hailey was playing teacher and
this was her desk.  I love that she put flowers on it!

Playing school with her dolls...all on one chair...haha.

Date night with Daddy!  Jaren took her to the movies
to see Wreck it Ralph.  She has her purse filled with candy.  I love
that Jaren does fun things like this with her...he's such a good dad!

Gardening Helper

We decided to plant potatoes in a five gallon bucket.
Cute little Addy wanted to do it all by herself!
Can't wait to see if we get any potatoes!

Our Garden

I have been bitten by the gardening bug!  I'm not too good at it, but am learning by trial & error.  I could sit there forever watching videos on Youtube on how to garden, or pin ideas on Pinterest....love that site.

I read that lettuce was one of the easiest vegetables
to grow, and that is true!  It's pretty hard to mess it up.
This is my third batch of lettuce, and it is doing awesome!
It's amazing how fresh it tastes compared to store bought.
So far the bugs have not been to interested in this variety.  I planted
another kind and I couldn't keep them out, which was pretty annoying,
although Hailey loved keeping the caterpillars as pets...haha.

I read that you could plant your celery from the store
and regrow it, so that's what we are trying here.  This is
about ten days of growth.  I'm curious to see if it gets any
actual stalks.

Not a good picture, but here are the radishes.  My first batch completely
bombed, so I am happy that these ones are growing good.  Some
of them get HUGE too!  Hailey loves to pick them out of the ground!

Peas.  Have no clue how long it takes them to start actually
producing peas, but the plants look good. I need to put something
in there for them to climb  I think.

I also read that carrots are easy to grow.....NOT true in my case!
I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.  My first few batches bombed,
and these are the only few that survived!  The girls & I planted some
more in buckets, so we will see how those turn out.

Swiss chard.  These were transplants, and looked really bad
at first, but seem to be doing better now.

My little helper

This cute little girl LOVES to help.  She walks around saying "her you go"....all day long, while trying to help me with stuff around the house.  One of her favorite things to do is unload the dishwasher.  If I try to get something out for her she will say "no, I do it".

Birthday Parties

Hailey had ANOTHER birthday party to go to this weekend.  Since starting kindergarten, she has come home with five invitations.  I feel bad telling her she cannot go to all of them, because I volunteer in her class and am really getting to know each of the kids, and they are SO cute and fun!  I almost didn't let her go to this last one.  I had a bad feeling about it, but let her go last minute.  When we got there, it was in a terrible neighborhood.  She wanted to go so bad, and I felt like I couldn't tell her no at that point.  When I walked her in, there were tons of people, and dogs running around.  She is afraid of other people's dogs, so that made me nervous.  I drove off and called my mom telling her how worried I was.  Two hours later I went to pick her up.  There were people coming and going from the house, grubby looking men outside hanging out.  Ughhh....I learned my lesson there.  Next time I will get a sitter for Addy and stay at the party with her.  Turns out they had their whole family and all of her friends come to the party.  I feel really dumb that I let my sweet little five year old go to a party, in a craphole neighborhood, with people I don't know!    When I picked her up, there were kids EVERYWHERE.  Outside, inside, in bedrooms with doors shut....everywhere.  You can never be too safe.  I felt like there was no way the parents, or whomever was in charge, could keep track of all of those kids.  It was chaos!  Hailey told me the dogs started fighting and the cats peed on the trampoline.  I said "the same trampoline you were just jumping on?"....she said YEP.  Awesome!

Despite the whole crappiness of the birthday party, she did make some
really cute wrapping paper with her big roll of paper!  So cute!!

Having Fun!

I've been wanting to get one of these HUGE rolls of paper for the girls to draw on for awhile.  I went to Ikea a couple of weeks ago and found one for under five bucks.  The girls have been having lots of fun with it.

The last few days the girls have been doing a LOT of bickering, so
it was nice to hear them playing so good together this morning!
We came out to find them having a picnic...SO cute!!

Christmas Countdown!

We made this cute little Christmas countdown link tree we found on Pinterest.  The girls love making paper link chains for the different holidays, I think the visual totally helps Hailey understand how far away they are.  Addy has no clue, but loves them anyway!
